Por mais que muitos queiram negar, parece que agora é oficial o flop de “Not Myself Tonight” da Christina Aguilera, que quando vazou foi bem recebida pelas rádios, começou a cair, atingiu o ápice na posição #23 do hot 100 da Billboard e agora despenca. É importante lembrar que “Dirrty”, hoje em dia cultuada como uma das músicas mais atemporais da cantora e fan favorite, só atingiu em sua melhor semana, a posição #48 no hot 100, e mesmo assim “Stripped” se tornou um dos álbuns mais vendidos do ano e para mim um dos melhores álbuns pop dessa década.

Mas os tempos são outros, e artistas consagrados e gravadoras de peso tem aprendido que um começo com o pé errado pode decretar o fracasso de um artista em dois tempos, a cada dia se vendem menos e menos cds e qualquer 500 mil cópias já é considerado sucesso, um absurdo se comparado há 10 anos atrás quando um sucesso figurava no mínimo 4, 5 milhões de vendas em solo americano.

Em uma rara atitude na indústria fonográfica, o selo da cantora (RCA) respondeu algumas perguntas do prestigiado fansite Xtina Web:

Yes, there will be a new single on the way. But it’s not planned any earlier than the albums release.

Is RCA disappointed?

Yes, ‘Not Myself Tonight’ is what we believe to be a great song. Unfortunately it was analysed and “ripped” apart by the media – with comparisons and judgements.

Why did you guys fail so hard?

The pop music world is changing constantly, and we don’t view it as a fail. Sometimes things work, sometimes they don’t – and the time obviously wasn’t right for this release to achieve what it was meant to achieve.

Is “WooHoo” the second single?

Not at this stage, no. It was an intentional leak, and was not a leak of a 2nd single.

Have you heard the album? or seen the booklet?

Heard the album… yes. Can talk about it in depth, no.

Can you name a couple favorites?

I don’t know the names of them as they were played off the album to a group. I’ve known Glam from hearing it before, and there’s one towards the end of the album – I really sway towards it being the one featuring Peaches. Anyway, it’s awesome!

When Not Myself Tonight’s release, you mentioned several songs were considered as the 1st single… Care to share which were?

Glam, Bionic and another song that I forget were considered. It wasn’t Not Myself Tonight – that was a last hour decision by Christina and her reps. It wasn’t WooHoo either.

Woohoo leaked before anyone else leaks it! it was a on a risky bar of leaking !

Not really. If it leaked before the intentional leak, it wouldn’t have mattered.

Where they aware that ‘Not Myself Tonight’ was boycotted from radios?

Resumindo: o selo só confirmou os boatos que rodavam por aí: que “Not Myself Tonight” entrou às pressas por último, que foi uma escolha de última hora, que o primeiro single seria ou “Bionic” ou “Glam” e que a decisão de NMT como single partiu da Bozina Aguilera e não da gravadora.

Eles não comentaram, mas é óbvio que “Woohoo” com Nicki Minaj entrou aos 45 do segundo tempo também, porque Xtina já está trabalhando nesse cd há muitoooo tempo e só por agora que Nicki começou a virar a febre das colaborações. Talvez a música até existisse, mas a parte da Harajuku Barbie eu tenho certeza que entrou no finalzinho.

De qualquer forma, estou curiosíssimo para ouvir o cd.
